Is there a way to split elements within a single sculpture into individual pieces?

I used the mirror guide to create the pieces for a humanoid puppet, but I don’t see a way to split the left & right sides into unique elements now that I’ve finished sculpting them.

For example, the left & right feet are considered a single sculpture, so I can’t individually assign them to their respective puppet joints.

Am I missing some function or is this not available?

  Try the crap tool in the sculpt mode tool set. On the far right of the sculpt tools palette
