Rotate object around its center when animating keyframe?
Anyone know how to rotate an object around its center when animating a keyframe?
The L2 grab rotates around the point you grab at, not the center of the object.

I should add: It’s hard to precisely grab the center of the object to rotate.. especially if it’s large.
I tried to create it on a large grid size to avoid these issues, but can’t get the grid to align back to what I sculpted on! -
If you use a ball joint to constrain the object at its centre then you can key frame it and it will rotate around the joint.
To easily find the centre of your object turn grid on and press L1 + triangle to set the grid reletive to that object. If it was made on the grid then you should be able to increase the grid size and see the centre clearly, even if the object has been moved off grid.
You can also use a rotator gadget and it will always rotate around the centre of mass. This might not be helpful in all situations though.
Hope this is helpful :) Peter -
Cheers Peter!
I have been trying for days now to get a tilt maze working. Like those old wooden mazes that you guide a ball bearing around.
So after trying:
Joints (Dreams physics not stable enough)
Rotators (cant set angle directly and rotation doesn’t inherit properly)
I finally thought I would try adding key frames. Each keyframe would store the max angle range for a single axis.
Seems to work so far! Not tried with a ball on it yet!
So it kind of rules out some of the suggestions you have.
I have a board that looks a bit like a chess board. This is a group of tiles. When selecting the group to realign the grid, the grid dots do not match as you suggested. Even though the group is of exacting size and dimensions.
I just discovered that I can get back to my grid by scoping in to the group and aligning grid to one of the individual tiles.
So I got it working.
However, is that a bug? Surely if the group is made up of tiles that are exactly sized to grid, it should then still work? -
No that can totally happen, but it isn’t a bug. You built the tiles on the grid but the group isn’t.
If you set the grid to be on the group then tunnel in and select everything (double tap x) and align all the objects to the grid, then everything will be aligned. Now if you snap your group onto the scene grid your tiles will align too.
Hope that makes sense. Basically the group is an object too.

Perfect sense! Thanks!
Also massive thanks, was looking for select all shortcut !!! -
Is there any way to use the L2 rotate mode to rotate an object around its center? I found some ways to rotate the camera around an object's center, but not the object itself:
