Moderating comments on our own creations

That would give people the ability to  hide valid criticisms and/or warnings to others in the community.

I they're "petty" or "spiteful" sounds abusive to me. I would just report this stuff and see what happens.

Also you can block them, right? That's what I tend to do with troublemakers. Then their comments are hidden from me at least. Other people will know they're "bad eggs" and ignore them/down-vote them.

I'll give an example from one of my own projects to highlight my point. Another dreamer commented on my recent mecha shooter "Pretty epic except the awful aiming sensitivity makes it unplayable". To my eye, this is petty and mean, but doesn't violate terms of service - they didn't use a slur, they make a threat, etc. When I report content to Dreams' formal moderation process I try to be careful to ensure the content I report is actually in violation of community guidelines and TOS.

However, anyone who sees this comment is obviously gonna assume the Dream is terrible and not worth their time. When small creators like me get low views and plays even on my most popular creations, and this is now and forever forever the first comment any player sees, it's gonna drive away players.

I propose self moderation as a middle ground. It won't tie up moderator's time with frivolous complaints, and gives us the ability ensure our content is presented in at least a slightly flattering light.

As for blocking, it doesn't hide their content from other users. My issue is not that they hurt my feelings (this guy is clearly an ass), it that one comment can torpedo hundreds of hours of work.

Most people don't know how to give constructive feedback, is the thing. I think they were trying to give feedback on the aiming system, but just said it in a jerky way. Also, most people don't look at the comments of a game before playing it. They'll just play it without caring what the comments say about it. So I don't think "one comment can torpedo hundreds of hours of work" at all. I think it would not affect how many other people play it whatsoever.

Self-moderation would be cool, but yeah...

The example you gave called your game epic then highlighted an issue they found with the game that they think could be improved. Neither spiteful or mean in my opinion, and a valid comment on your game - I would go so far as to say they liked it but had a disappointing experience with the aiming mechanic and wanted to let you know so you could improve it. You are going to need a thicker skin as a creator if this comment has upset you because not every comment is going to be from someone who loved everything about your creation. These are quick throw away comments most of the time in a very reduced character box, so comments are likely to be to the point. Believe me, there are a lot of trolls out there that would be a lot meaner than this and there is already a reporting mechanism in place for this. If you block the player they can no longer comment on your creations, so if you think someone is being over negative on all your stuff you can stop them from seeing it. The comment made when they were not blocked will remain for others to see though, you wont be able to see it. You also will not be able to see their creations, so be sure you want to start blocking people, it should be a last resort .

I also think you are assuming a lot about why games get played - and let me tell you it is a rare Dreamer who reads the comments to a game before playing it, and will not a play a game because of one negative comment.

Yea, that comment was very mild and offered valid criticism.  You read it in a negative tone, where as i saw it as a comment about aiming sensitivity, which will of course be subjective.  Some may even see it as a positive since they like really sensitive aiming.   You are reading too much in to it and injecting your own feelings on others comments.

I would much rather see comments like this that have a specific criticism or compliment rather than simply generic "Amazing" or just endless praise.  None of us are perfect.  I hope to get lots of critical feedback on everything i release.

I'm kinda 50:50 on this. Usually really bad comments get recognized by others as such and downvoted, which makes them hidden anyway.

On the other hand such feature could be misused to delete valid criticism.

I would appreciate the ability to curate the comments section on our own user profile as I have 3 comments from over 2 years go that I've either deleted or downvoted and yet they remain as web objects. Not a deal breaker, but would be nice to be able to clean this area up.
