Is it possible to place an object above a rolling ball

I would like to have a contraption that floats above the position of a rolling ball . Is it possible to do that? The object would remain in the same axis and height above the ball as the ball rolls.

  We have worked it out with a follower but do not know how to get it to jump with the jump. Any ideas?

  I presume you're currently using 1 Follower on the x and z-axis to follow the ball?
  
  I think you could match the y-axis (vertical) with 2 more followers. Set one to 'follow', and the other to 'flee'. Make the minimum distance of the 'follow' Follower the same distance as the maximum distance on the 'flee' follower. Set strength and damping to 100% on the y-axis and 0% on the x and z-axis.
  
  For your current Follower, ensure strength and damping are set at 0% on the y-axis, so it doesn't clash with the new Followers.

  Unfortunately tags have quite a latency depending what you want to achieve.
  Here is a simple, crazy, nonsense, mechanical idea I had when everything else failed that actually works, if you fiddle with weight a bit.
  Hope it makes sense. :)
