Camera options for vehicles
I'm looking for a way to set up a camera system for a generic vehicle (a jeep in my case) so that the camera is not right behind it but it's shifted sideways a little. If my wording isn't the best (sorry), I'm basically looking for a over-the-shoulder view camera for a puppet, but instead of a puppet I have a car.
The standard player controlled camera is centered on the place where the controller sensor is placed (which is the vehicle itself), so I really don't know how I am supposed to change it or if it's even possible to do so.
I've tried using the standard camera tool, placing it in the same microchip on the car where the controller sensor is, but while I can set up the sideways view it will remain fixed to the car's body, which means that 1) it cannot be moved around as the standard controller sensor camera, which I expected, and 2) it will strictly follow the car's body movements, including any sudden movements and vibrations that could happen due to the car's weight on the wheels, when hitting things or while moving in a scene where the floor is not perfectly flat, which is not the best.
Sorry about my English, hopefully that was good enough.

The camera target is always the position of the control sensor gadget (the green one) which can be moved around on your vehicle. Unfortunately I don't think this is currently editable in any other way.
If you hold L1 and press square on the control sensor gadget to open it's tweak menu, you'll see one of the tabs has a camera icon. This is where you can edit the default position of the camera itself.
A method I can suggest to edit the target is to put an invisible sculpt into your vehicle at the position you want as the target and stick the control sensor to that. That way it is still part of your vehicle, but will be invisible in play mode.
There may be other more elaborate and technical solutions to the issue but I don't know them!

I'll try your method and see how it'll turn out. If I manage to use the standard controller sensor camera it'd be better in any case, since that's more versatile and can be controlled by players themselves, so I'm willing to give it a try.
Thanks Rich. -
Check out my "Ball with Controller and Smart Camera" demo for my technique. https://indreams.me/element/b9jjwSwsQbk I made an invisible ball that follows the controlled ball. The camera is attached to the invisible ball.
By tweaking things such as the fall off zone of the follower and the follower's strength you can't make some really nice camera controls.
You could easily make it follow an invisible piece stick to the side of your vehicle. -
That's... something I definitely would've never come up with, or at least not before the beta closed lol.
I'll check that demo out next time I play, thanks!
