Is it possible to create line of sight with trigger zones or laser scopes?

I only want the laser scope or the trigger zone to activate if there is no scenery in between the detected object and the object that is doing the detecting.

  I have tried multiple laser scopes , calculators and the distance wire, but it doesnt work.

  I think the laser scope has an x-ray setting to prevent or allow it to see through objects when looking for a specific tag for example.
  
  I'm nearly sure I've used it to achieve this line of sight effect with a gun turret.

  Yeah, turn off x-ray basically. But you can also use the new head tracker gadget which has a built-in laser scope if you turn on the "look cursor", and the target object can use the new look cursor detector.
