Issues sculpting

So I'm trying to soften the scarp edges of a vehicle I'm making, but everytime I enter Sculpt Mode my vehicle is grayed out and I can't interact with it at all. I'm just given the option to start sculpting with whatever shape I have.

I'm certain I'm doing something wrong, but I just can't figure it out. If someone could please enlighten me I'd GREATLY appreciate it!

  It sounds like you keep starting a new sculpt rather than editing your existing one. You need to scope into the sculpt you want to edit to make changes to it (L1 + X when you are hovering over your vehicle will scope into it, it should automatically go into sculpt mode once you reach the right level). Depending on if you have any groups, you may need to scope in further.
