How do I use Text Gadget the same way Steve did?

So I've recently seen the stream where steve_big_guns showcased his Pug. How did he do the effects with the text gadget? How do J achieve that?

  In the settings tab (tab #5), there is an “in scene” toggle that lets you move the text in 3D space rather than being pinned to the screen.
  
  In the Text Box Properties (tab #2), change the texture, color, opacity, etc to get the look you want. Turn off “Autofit” to allow resizing both horizontally and vertically, and position and size the text box where you want the surface to be.
  
  You can also turn off the text box visibility and just use the Border properties to make rectangles and ovals with just an outline, which is apparently how the ripples on the water were made. You can grab and scale the text box with the directional buttons instead of using the resize handles to create a thicker outline.

  Also make sure you click “allow rotation” in the settings tab.
