How do I make a tag?

For the follower gadget, I have to enter a tag name for the effected object to follow, but how do I make the tag for an object?

  Use the Tag Gadget. its under Sensors & Inputs (Green icons)
  Surface snap the tag to the object to apply the tag to it.
