Stretch tool not working?

The stretch tool doesn’t stretch skulpts. In the streams all you had to do is press the tool and stretch objects but it doesn’t do anything for me.

  You cannot stretch elements as a whole. You can only use the stretch tool on sculpts when you're scoped into a sculpture while in sculpt mode. Hope that helps!

  Is this the same when doing the proportions on a puppet?

  Go to sculpt mode (which deselects what you selected)
  
  Choose Stretch Tool
  
  Then hover over the victim piece
  
  - THEN hit L1-X,
  
  This is because there is nothing on screen telling you to do this last step, and no other button you can press to select the object once stretch tool is selected, because everything is grayed out.
  
  
  
  That is an unfriendly oversight of a bug in my opinion.
