How would I make a long, flat, winding CURVED road?

  • ClearsMyFavColor

I believe your best route is to make a rectangle the width and depth that you would like your road then extrude it until its roughly a thin square, like a short stack of post-it notes. Begin with the clone tool then use the fancy "increase number of clones" tool to make a bunch of copies of that sculpt. Then using the left and right sticks you can adjust the bend of your road to your liking and can even make inclines/decending portions to your liking. Hope that makes sense!

Alternately you could sculpt a winding road in freeform then turn on the grid to level off the top surface.

I dont understand what you mean when you say curved, but rectangular. You literally cant have both.

If i were you, i would use the sphere smear tool. Create a curvey tube that is the path you want the road to be. Now use the rectangular prism and delete the top and bottom of this curvey tube to make a flat road.

Use the tool that allows you to bend it (can't remember the name), then cut it in half with a large square.

Thank you all, so much. Very helpful. I think the clone/bend feature will give me the result I'm looking for. In retrospect, I've seen Kareem and Anton do it soooo many times...duh, is me! :) And yes, I meant rectangular in shape, then curved like roads....while maintaining the rectangular width.
