How does the Jet Trail option even worK?

In the Painting tweak menu, the animation tab, there's the Jet Trail option, i get what it does but i cant make it work, any suggestions?

  Hi,
  
  If you turn this on and set the painting to have an animation speed the painting will get stretched and left behind as the painting moves, great for making jet trails :)
