New animation gadget: the path tool
A new gadget where you can animate objects, cameras or puppets to follow an exact path that you have drawn.
The path is made by adding way points where you want the object to move. A clear line will become visible between the points indicating the route the object will take.
Each way point have some tweaks:
- there is a percentage slider that controls how smoothly/curvy the route goes out/in to this point. At 0% you will have a hard angle, and at 100% the movement will turn very smoothly in a curve. (the visible line between the points will update to show the curved path so you know exactly where the object will go)
- each point have a acceleration/speed slider that controls how fast the objects moves in/out of the point. (we could possibly use the blend types that are already present in the game to control movement speed between the points. Like linear/slow in etc.)
Applications: This new animation gadget can be used to control camera movement in movies/cut scenes. It can also be used to make enemies patrol an area. Or make it easy to implement things like a rail-grind.
Making things follow a path is of course already possible in dreams, however, it is very complicated to do and doesn't work all the time. Especially if you want to make a curved path. This gadget makes it much easier as you can control curvyness and have a visible line as a guide.
Extra:
The usual loop/once/continuous could be useful here as well.
Would also be cool if you could enter the path from any way point. Like imagine jumping on a railway midways and the puppet will follow the path from the closest point and not magically teleport to the first point/start of railway and go from there.

100% agree. You can do this currently to some degree but its overly complicated and has gotchas.

Just yesterday I proposed that idea on Aecert stream. I am all in for that.
