HDI : make a moving boat (i.e HDI use ctr sensor + advanced movers/rotators) ?
Hello eveyone
I wanted to make a moving boat with these functions WITH the camera point in front of the boat (think a little wood boat)
- Left stick (LS) Up/Down = moving forward backward
- LS right/left = moving to the right/left
Right Stick (RS) Up/Down : nothing
RS right/left = turning to left/right
My problem is :
I understand the concept of controler sensor + splitter + avanced movers and I succeed to make the boat working accord to my will on the left stick (boat able to go forward backward and to strafe).
BUT
When I want to tweak the RS functions it doesnt work. I split the output from the controller sensor to get a right/left and up/down output.
And I connected a basic rotator to the left/right splitter output (since i only want the boat to be able to turn around on one axis).
I think the whole concept of AXIS (y x z) is very difficult to me. I saw gizmos everywhere : for the controller sensor, the advance rotator and the movers and I don't know AT ALL if I have to tweak them, to make them match or what differences there are between the gizmo being upside or downside etc.
In the end here is my problem : I can get the boat to turn to 45° to the left or the the right with my RS but in the middle of the turning it seems my left/right input doesnt work anymore and It goes to the up/down and in the end for a full turn I have to press input 4 times the right sight (one by quarter of turn).
In the same thing, the go forward/downard and the strafe is only working when the boat is facing its beginning position. When I place it on the other side, all the controls are inverted...
I dont know how to do anymore since there are too many parameters..
Thanks for you precious help..

Hi, what a cool project!!! Reminds me of the little toy boat in Ponyo! :)
You can simplify things by not using splitters to teach the +/- bit of the left stick. Plug the wire into the speed and set it to modulate (the X icon on the input) and this will take care of both +&- values.
Make sure the rotators and movers are set to local and this should fix the fact that your boat only rotated and moves when in its starting position.
The only rotation axis you need to worry about is Y as that is up in Dreams.
Check out a dream called marble for a really simple example of this setup although no rotators in that one. Will probs still help though.
Hope this helps :) Peter -
Thanks I can't wait to try it
In the meantime thanks for your answer and happy end of the year peter !
