How do Sliders work?

I'm trying to get a, platform to move horizontally on a, fixed plane.

The Sliders description sounds like that it'll work for that, but when I connect a slider between a fixed object and my platform, my platform doesn't move.

Do Sliders need power?

I would think they work like pistons do. No power needed, unless you want it for a reason.

  If you want it to do anything, it will need power--just like everything else in the game.
  
  If you want it to move back and forth, set the cycles per minute (or whatever it's called) to adjust the speed.

  That's not true at all.
  
  You can place a piston on something and it just works.
  
  You only need power if you want to control when the piston etc gets turned on/off.
  
  I guess your new to Dreams and LBP.
