How can I make puppets hold hands

Look in this video the puppet holds thing like handles.
Seems to be done using inverse kinematic salon hands?

If you keyframe the hand using R2 (IK) then while that keyframe is powered, the hand will be locked to that position even if the body and arms and such are moving around.
