Is it possible to attach a joint to a grouped object?
This morning I made tires, an axle, and a car body. I attached the tires to the axles with a bolt, and grouped them together. Later when I tried attaching the body to the axle with a piston, the piston just hung in the air as the axle dropped to the ground.
Is it not possible to connect objects that don't share the same group?

You can joint to groups
But a joint cannot pass from an object within one group to an object in another group.
If you try this you should find the joint automatically upgrades its target to the group not its contents.
What you are trying to do is likely possible but you may need to re-evaluate your group structure.
