There's an "animation tutorial" that is extremely helpful for how key frames and timelines work within a puppet. I think its the second last one. "Advanced character creation" or something.

Key frames let you animate puppets etc, applying them to a timeline lets you sequence them for animations. Action recorders let you record movements of objects, changes of settings, in real time.
